2022 Look Back: CRESS WATERCRESS

For today’s 2022 Look Back I’m reminiscing over ‘Cress Watercress’ Written by Gregory Maguire, Published by Candlewick Press, in April 2022

It was such a brilliant experience working with Gregory Maguire and illustrating his fantastic characters. I wanted to live in that forest. This is one of those books in which I really feel that I developed a lot as an illustrator. I adapted my style as we wanted the book to have a classic feel - perhaps in line with classics such as Wind In The Willows and Winnie The Pooh- but still have a very contemporary artistic outlook.

I’m super proud of this book. I was so chuffed with the response to the book -including ⭐️ Starred reviews from Kirkus and Publishers Weekly The book was also recently selected by The New York Times as one of its Books Of The Year. Wahoo!

And working with Gregory and the Art Director Amy Berniker was obviously absolutely incredible.
